So, I said this on facebook...
sigh... so Im in the office.. I hear a cry from Fetzer.. I find her, possibly, stuck between a place she was trying to jump to.... and a place she was trying to jump from. Paws on both surfaces.. just forming a bridge. I think she was stuck. Never seen that. I hope to never see it again, because I am now wondering if she is losing strength.. or.. if its something that could have happened even to a younger cat ... Ive seen videos of similar... sigh, you know what I am saying...

So, I said this on facebook...
Subbed for theatre class in middle school today. I have a question for teachers that have dealt with this. We did improv ( of course... but not that ridiculously stupid freeze tag game.. we did real improv ) Anyway.. they had been playing Taxi... people enter the scene with characters ... etc. One of the kids chose such a HUGE stereotypical type... over the top... class laughed. Now, since it was improv and I was there for two hours.. I didn't comment at all... but.. what would a full time teacher do? Stereotypes are seen everywhere. Saturday Night Live... and movie with ex saturday night live stars... etc. BUT.. in this day and age of political correctness.. it seems like it should be addressed. It's bullying. It's racist.. it's all that stuff.. but.. improv shouldnt have editing in it.. but.. middle school... I am very curious. Im not talking about what happened today. Thats done and it wasnt addressed at all. No need to as far as I am concerned.. but were it an ongoing gig.. surely it needs to be addressed, if for no other reason than the parents with issues... Suggestions?

John Glenn During the Mercury-Atlas 6 Spaceflight
On Feb. 20, 1962, astronaut John H. Glenn, Jr., became the first American to orbit Earth. Launched from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 14, Glenn's Mercury-Atlas 6 "Friendship 7" spacecraft completed a successful three-orbit mission, reaching a maximum altitude (apogee) of approximately 162 statute miles and an orbital velocity of approximately 17,500 miles per hour. The flight lasted a total of 4 hours, 55 minutes, and 23 seconds before the spacecraft splashed down in the ocean. Magnetospheric Multiscale Observatories Processed for Launch
NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) observatories are processed for launch in a clean room at the Astrotech Space Operations facility in Titusville, Florida. MMS is an unprecedented NASA mission to study the mystery of how magnetic fields around Earth connect and disconnect, explosively releasing energy via a process known as magnetic reconnection. MMS consists of four identical spacecraft that work together to provide the first three-dimensional view of this fundamental process, which occurs throughout the universe. The mission observes reconnection directly in Earth's protective magnetic space environment, the magnetosphere. By studying reconnection in this local, natural laboratory, MMS helps us understand reconnection elsewhere as well, such as in the atmosphere of the sun and other stars, in the vicinity of black holes and neutron stars, and at the boundary between our solar system's heliosphere and interstellar space. MMS is a NASA mission led by the Goddard Space Flight Center. The instrument payload science team consists of researchers from a number of institutions and is led by the Southwest Research Institute. So, I said this on facebook...
man, she really hates me right now. Seriously deep throaty growl .. and the fur over her eyes is kind mussed so she has this look of glare. Worst part: I've mentioned before how she tends to try to climb up me to , essentially, protect her, or , sometimes try to climb over me to escape. Well, the next thing that happened has happened enough that I have to assume its a universal thing, but, cat owners, do you know that situation where they catch you with a claw and it goes into flesh and kinda hooks in? That hook that you literally have to grab the paw and unhook your flesh as though it's barbed in? Well, that's what happened in a few places around my neck tonight... as she was climbing up me to get away. I HAVE to assume the neighbors heard me scream in blinding pain. Really caught me off guard... really still hurts... sigh

Dawn Approaches: Two Faces of Ceres
These two views of Ceres were acquired by NASA's Dawn spacecraft on Feb. 12, 2015, from a distance of about 52,000 miles (83,000 kilometers) as the dwarf planet rotated. The images have been magnified from their original size. The Dawn spacecraft is due to arrive at Ceres on March 6, 2015. Dawn's mission to Vesta and Ceres is managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. Dawn is a project of the directorate's Discovery Program, managed by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. UCLA is responsible for overall Dawn mission science. Orbital ATK, Inc., of Dulles, Virginia, designed and built the spacecraft. JPL is managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Growing Deltas in Atchafalaya Bay
The delta plain of the Mississippi River is disappearing. The lobe-shaped arc of coastal land from the Chandeleur Islands in eastern Louisiana to the Sabine River loses a football field’s worth of land every hour. Put another way, the delta has shrunk by nearly 5,000 square kilometers (2,000 square miles) over the past 80 years. That’s as if most of Delaware had sunk into the sea. Though land losses are widely distributed across the 300 kilometer (200 mile) wide coastal plain of Louisiana, Atchafalaya Bay stands as a notable exception. In a swampy area south of Morgan City, new land is forming at the mouths of the Wax Lake Outlet and the Atchafalaya River. Wax Lake Outlet is an artificial channel that diverts some of the river’s flow into the bay about 16 kilometers (10 miles) west of where the main river empties. Both deltas are being built by sediment carried by the Atchafalaya River. The Atchafalaya is a distributary of the Mississippi River, connecting to the “Big Muddy” in south central Louisiana near Simmesport. Studies of the geologic history of the meandering Mississippi have shown that—if left to nature—most of the river’s water would eventually flow down the Atchafalaya. But the Old River Control Structure, built in the 1960s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ensures that only 30 percent of the Mississippi flows into the Atchafalaya River, while the rest of the keeps moving toward Baton Rouge and New Orleans. pretty uneventful day.. one kid.. ONE kid was being a jerk and disrupting the entire class.. so I gave him my typical options.. calm down here.. or go to the office and calm down. He becme more a jerk so he lost his options. Sent him away. Later.. talking to the teacher.. said, I only tossed one kid.. and told him the name.. he said.. oh, him, yeah, I think he is the only one in that class that actually reports to a parole officer. -- nice.

Pills down.. vitamin dealt with... and injection. She was grumbling.. and she didnt go for her treat.. but.. she is 'hidden' in the closet again. Every once in awhile I get this feeling of, all in all Im not killing her.. and she hasnt seemed to lose one iota of quality of life. Just sleeping a bit more and not as pleased to see me.,... so.. basically I think she is slowly becoming my ex-wife.

Giant Filament Seen on the Sun
A dark, snaking line across the lower half of the sun in this Feb. 10, 2015 image from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows a filament of solar material hovering above the sun's surface. SDO shows colder material as dark and hotter material as light, so the line is, in fact, an enormous swatch of colder material hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona. Stretched out, that line – or solar filament as scientists call it – would be more than 533,000 miles long. That is longer than 67 Earths lined up in a row. Filaments can float sedately for days before disappearing. Sometimes they also erupt out into space, releasing solar material in a shower that either rains back down or escapes out into space, becoming a moving cloud known as a coronal mass ejection, or CME. SDO captured images of the filament in numerous wavelengths, each of which helps highlight material of different temperatures on the sun. By looking at such features in different wavelengths and temperatures, scientists learn more about what causes these structures, as well as what catalyzes their occasional eruptions. Launched on Feb. 11, 2010 aboard a ULA Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is designed to study the causes of solar variability and its impacts on Earth. The spacecraft's long-term measurements give solar scientists in-depth information to help characterize the interior of the sun, the sun's magnetic field, the hot plasma of the solar corona, and the density of radiation that creates the ionosphere of the planets. The information is used to create better forecasts of space weather needed to protect aircraft, satellites and astronauts living and working in space. Hubble Sees A Smiling Lens
In the center of this image, taken with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, is the galaxy cluster SDSS J1038+4849 — and it seems to be smiling. You can make out its two orange eyes and white button nose. In the case of this “happy face”, the two eyes are very bright galaxies and the misleading smile lines are actually arcs caused by an effect known as strong gravitational lensing. Galaxy clusters are the most massive structures in the Universe and exert such a powerful gravitational pull that they warp the spacetime around them and act as cosmic lenses which can magnify, distort and bend the light behind them. This phenomenon, crucial to many of Hubble’s discoveries, can be explained by Einstein’s theory of general relativity. In this special case of gravitational lensing, a ring — known as an Einstein Ring — is produced from this bending of light, a consequence of the exact and symmetrical alignment of the source, lens and observer and resulting in the ring-like structure we see here. Hubble has provided astronomers with the tools to probe these massive galaxies and model their lensing effects, allowing us to peer further into the early Universe than ever before. This object was studied by Hubble’s Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) and Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) as part of a survey of strong lenses. So, I said this on facebook...
so... I have a new plan.. two pills down her throat.. pretty quick. A full body containment move. Then.. after she settles over that drama.. I slip in what seriously has to be the worst tasting eyedropper of vitamins. Yeah.. I could mix it in her food.. but it reeks.. I sincerely doubt she would touch anything it was in... and now we wait.. injection soon. But.. that is .. for whatever reason.. the least traumatic of all the process. I think both of us are stunned by that. I know its kinda pointless to hope for.. but man, I would be pleased if the vet said. Nope.. she is fine now. No need for anything...

Hubble's Little Sombrero
Galaxies can take many shapes and be oriented any way relative to us in the sky. This can make it hard to figure out their actual morphology, as a galaxy can look very different from different viewpoints. A special case is when we are lucky enough to observe a spiral galaxy directly from its edge, providing us with a spectacular view like the one seen in this picture of the week. This is NGC 7814, also known as the “Little Sombrero.” Its larger namesake, the Sombrero Galaxy, is another stunning example of an edge-on galaxy — in fact, the “Little Sombrero” is about the same size as its bright namesake at about 60,000 light-years across, but as it lies farther away, and so appears smaller in the sky. NGC 7814 has a bright central bulge and a bright halo of glowing gas extending outwards into space. The dusty spiral arms appear as dark streaks. They consist of dusty material that absorbs and blocks light from the galactic center behind it. Forty-Four Years Ago Today: Apollo 14 Touches Down on the Moon
On Feb. 5. 1971, the Apollo 14 crew module landed on the moon. The crew members were Captain Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr. (USN), commander; Major Stuart Allen Roosa (USAF), command module pilot; and Commander Edgar Dean Mitchell (USN), lunar module pilot. In this photo, Shepard stands by the Modular Equipment Transporter (MET). The MET was a cart for carrying around tools, cameras and sample cases on the lunar surface. Shepard can be identified by the vertical stripe on his helmet. After Apollo 13, the commander's spacesuit had red stripes on the helmet, arms, and one leg, to help identify them in photographs. dearest LA Friends....due to my lovely landlord/management team.. and their focus on the almighty dollar... I am seeking a new abode. I love to move.. ( if I recall ) but the last time I did it, I dont think the majority of us where even on facebook. So... I get to use social media now. Seeking a one-bedroom.. or a room mate and a little larger space. Feel free to share this with your friends.. I got sixty days before I start considering wallpapering some of these cardboard boxes and finding an underpass ;-)

Last part of the day, subbing for Journalism in the library. I speak to the librarian, who.. well.. doesn't seem all that with it, honestly. Literally and figuratively kinda short a few books. I ask her if they have any books on American Sign Language. She actually signs, "no". We have a conversation about signing.. etc... I walk into the room where the majority of kids are.. and there, right in front of me on the shelf.. Dictionary of Sign Language. I grab it and hold it up so she can see it.. her reply... and I wish I were joking... " Oh, we have that one, but it only has words." ummm... yeah.
